Hampton Roads Transportation

Hampton Roads Transportation, Inc. (HRTI), was formed December 5, 1984, and provides state-of-the-art operational service 24 hours a day, 365 days per year to taxicab companies that service all points in Hampton Roads. HRTI provides all of the accounting, administration, maintenance, and dispatch services for Coastal Ride , Black and White Cabs of... Norfolk , Black and White Cabs of Virginia Beach , Norview Cars, Inc. t/a Norfolk Checker Taxi and Yellow Cab of Norfolk, Yellow Cab of Hampton , and Yellow Cab of Newport News . Collectively these companies own approximately 300 taxicabs (including wheelchair accessible minivans). As is customary in the industry, the taxicabs are operated by qualified and licensed drivers who are independent lessees and not employees of HRTI or the cab companies. Each driver must apply for and receive a permit from the local police department after undergoing DMV and criminal background checks. Additionally, the cab company collects and reviews each drivers DMV report every six months per insurance requirements. Each driver also takes a defensive driving course, which follows the guidelines of the National Safety Councils Defensive Driving Course, every two years. Our accounting department maintains corporate and other accounts for each of the companies. It produces monthly invoices and statements for accounts of varying sizes, from accounts with minimal usage to accounts with over $17,000 a week in charges. The companies currently have accounts with about 165 businesses, hospitals, government agencies, universities and military concerns.
