Hall Machine & Welding Co., Inc. was OFFICIALLY founded in 1928 by Hugh Hall, Sr. Previously it had been an auto shop established in 1924. It's function: Serve industrial, automotive, fabrication, and supply needs of the community. His son, Jimmie Hall, established the tradition of this family-owned business when he returned to Carlsbad after WWII.... He remained with the company until the mid-90's when he retired; yet he still occasionally works on special jobs. His son, David Hall, returned home from UNM in 1975 to continue the tradition. As the current President of Hall Machine, David took the helm when his father retired. Since it's inception in the early part of the 20 th century, Hall Machine has served the community of Carlsbad. Examples of our fabrication capabilities can be seen at various schools, mines, the WIPP site, the Carlsbad Caverns, and several government buildings. Hall Machine also contributes to the community by sponsoring several Youth and High School sports teams. Our work scope has shifted over the years from automotive and mining services to several other areas. We now focus on Metal Fabrication, Machining, Metal Sales, and Industrial Parts/Equipment Distribution. The site that the main office now occupies on Mermod Street was once three separate shops. Besides the automotive shop owned by Hugh Hall, there were also a saddle-making shop and a furniture store that specialized in making caskets. When Hall Machine was officially formed; the three businesses combined office space. Soon, the fabrication and steel demands were large enough that it warranted building the site affectionately known as "The Yard". The FABRICATION PLANT and METALS WAREHOUSE now sits along the Pecos River, bordering the railroads. At the time, this was very economical because the railroads were the best way to transport material.
