Born in the mid 80's, the result of energy shortages and high energy costs in the 1970's, and developed on the premise of innovative clean technology and high reliability, GWF Power has become a recognized leader of independent power production in California. GWF was the first to take a waste fuel source from California's petroleum refineries and c... onvert it into electricity. During the past two decades, GWF has owned and operated six of the most proficient, environmentally friendly and reliable solid fuel power plants in the State. GWF's petroleum coke fired power plants use state of the art "fluidized bed combustion technology" to reduce power plant emissions by 95 percent significantly above other types of solid fuel combustion. Through innovation GWF has turned the residual material produced from the combustion process into a co-product used in the cement industry. This business solution keeps over 75,000 tons of material a year from going to California landfills. In total, the petroleum coke operated facilities produce 135 megawatts, enough energy to power 135,000 California households. The turn of the century brought new challenges to California as demands for electricity increased. GWF responded with vigor, bringing on the first of three new natural gas turbine generating plants on-line in 87days.
