We provide Internet and television to the residents and businesses on Quadra Island supporting over 500 Internet and 400 tv customers. Our 68 kms of coaxial cable infrastructure covers more than 80 percent of the population areas which is far more than any of our competitors. Like most modern cable companies, GiCable uses a Hybrid Fiber Optic Coaxi... al Cable (HFC) system to distribute Internet and television to its customers. We currently have 12 km of fiber optic cable running between Quathiaski Cove and Heriot Bay. This fiber optic cable distributes signal to five "fiber nodes" that convert the fiber signal to coaxial cable for distribution to the neigbourhoods. We receive our Television Signal from Shaw via satellite and our Internet from Telus via fiber optic cable. Since purchasing the company, we have upgraded the fiber optic transmitters and receivers in the headend (our office) as well as the fiber nodes in the field.
