At GroundWork Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, specialize in, and work exclusively with children and pre-teens ages 3-14. I use a collaborative approach with families to help children and parents find solutions to their current struggles. Through the use of play therapy, art, sand tray, and cognitive behavioral therapy, I am given a unique insight int... o the child's perception of the presenting challenges. Play based therapy, sand tray, and expressive arts can be a wonderful tool for children to tell their story, and find creative solutions, as well as heal and find healthy ways to move forward. During counseling I encourage children to explore and develop new skills as we work together, and support each child's unique healing and self-exploration process. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help children find new coping skills, increase self-control, and change disruptive thoughts and behavior patterns. I believe the tools gained during counseling are skills that will remain helpful to children both during the rest of their childhood, and future adult life. I support parents by putting behavioral plans into place when appropriate, and follow up by putting into place supportive elements into the child's daily life to continue to foster positive change. I believe successful therapy is providing children a safe and nonjudgmental space to process, heal, and find solutions; as well as helping families cultivate new tools and ways of interacting that can be transitioned from inside my office, to daily life, long after counseling has ended. I am a LGTBQ affirming counselor, and conduct all therapy sessions in a way that is child appropriate, holistic, and non-judgmental.
