The GRI hopes to expand its membership to include more registries. The governance behind this federation exists to support the alignment of collection profile description methods so that aggregations across these registries are useful and to ensure participating registries meet both the business and service requirements necessary to successfully contribute to the overall objectives of the initiative. Although the success of the GRI will be measured by improvements in end-user discovery services, the GRI is an enabler of such services rather than a provider. The key beneficiaries are not just end users, but aggregators and intermediaries such as portals, applications and mash-up communities.
