Granger-Hunter Improvement District (GHID) is a public water and wastewater utility serving approximately 120,000 residents across a 24.5 square mile area in central Salt Lake County, Utah. Founded in 1950, GHID has grown substantially from its initial 312 connections in 1953 to approximately 26,861 connections by the end of 2010, reflecting decade... s of consistent expansion and infrastructure development. The District operates and maintains an extensive network of critical assets, including more than 364 miles of water distribution lines, eight storage reservoirs, eight deep water wells, approximately 350 miles of wastewater collection lines, and seventeen wastewater pump stations. With a workforce of 66 employees, GHID manages the full lifecycle of water and wastewater services, from sourcing and treatment through delivery and safe collection. To support growing demand, the District diversifies its water supply through both internal productiongenerating approximately 5,571 acre feet annually from its own wellsand external procurement, purchasing approximately 19,655 acre feet annually from Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District. GHID also participates in a regional inter-local agreement established in 1978 with two cities and four improvement districts to operate the Central Valley Water Reclamation Facility, which processes all wastewater for the District.
