Ghana Electrometer (GEM) was established in 2003 in response to the increasing demand for quality electricity meters in Ghana. The company has since grown into dedicated, fully integrated, electricity metering solutions organization. GEM is the only locally-based electric meter assembly plant in Ghana and one of only two in the West African sub reg... ion. The company supplies ISO/ IEC certified credit and pre-paid meters to governments through electricity companies. Through the company's strategic partnership with Elsewedy Electrometer Egypt S.A.E., Ghana Electrometer has gained the technology, skill and capacity to offer the Ghanaian and West African Markets electronic meters with modern technologies. Elsewedy is ranked the fifth largest meter company in the world in terms of sales value and currently supplies meters to 70% of African countries. GEM has so far deployed over 350,000 credit meters and about 440,000 prepayment meters in many cities in Ghana through the Ministry of Energy and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
