Field Ready provides a means for colleges, polytechnics and technical universities to bring representatives from employers into the heart of their existing courses and programmes. Field Ready is a franchise business which allows successful institutions to operate their own Field Ready franchise supported by the Field- Ready team in the UK and by ou... r internationally active network of technical partners. Rectors, principals and vice chancellors of institutions who wish to operate a Field Ready franchise will agree to undertake a 'Readiness Survey' operated by our partners 'The Commonwealth of Learning' (CoL) and, if successful will provide faculty, facilities and a means to market the programme to their students from appropriate technical disciplines. They will also support a Field- Ready assessment process which will select a suitable number of students to graduate onto the Field Ready programme. Field Ready (UK) contracts with employers from a range of relevant businesses depending on the principal employment needs in the institution's catchment area. Those employers fund the operating costs of the Field Ready franchise for a period of three years by means of a subscription. After which they have the opportunity to renew or be replaced on the programme. They also provide at least one 'Commissioner' who is a technical expert in his/her discipline and is responsible for working with the Field Ready franchisee as part of a group of Commissioners to arrange a period of real eld experience for the students during the 12 month programme. Most Field Ready programmes will have between 4-7 companies as subscribers allowing the sharing of responsibility for providing a programme of field experience between a number of organisations. This collaboration removes the burden on any one company.
