Nuclear Safety Associates today is a thriving midsize company that continues to experience strong growth, but the company haven't forgotten how the company started just 12 years ago. Recalling the company's humble p... ast is why NSA has established a Small Business Administration Mentor-Protégé relationship with Global Engineering Technology, a minority-owned small business. The goal of the SBA Mentor-Protégé program is to help small disadvantaged companies find success by matching them with successful larger companies. These larger firms serve as mentors, helping their protégés by providing expertise in a variety of areas including technical and management assistance and contract administration/management. The mentor may also provide financial assistance and/or support. Any successful mentor-protégé relationship requires a strong mentor with a good reputation and dedication to its instructional role and a protégé eager and willing to learn from and work with the mentor. At the heart of the SBA program, the two companies also must share a similar corporate culture and establish agreed-upon goals for the relationship. NSA and GET meet all of these requirements and the company's relationship is off to a strong start. NSA and GET's joint venture, GET-NSA, LLC, qualifies as an 8(a) small business and has already won its first contract award: The DOE Oak Ridge Operations IT Support contract. The company is optimistic about a second joint-venture award in the coming months. NSA's relationship with GET is one way the company is giving back to the community.
