Geological Survey

Established in 1976, with headquarters in Central India (Raipur) with an intent of providing Induction training to the new incumbents of the Department. GSI Training Institute (GSITI) has expanded its operation across different geological terrains of the country by diversifying its activities over last three decades by establishing Field Training C... enters (FTC), and in the process has shifted its Headquarters (HQ) to Hyderabad. In order to meet the emerging challenges in the mineral sector, the High Powered Committee (HPC), while constituting the Missions of Geological Survey of India, recommended modification and changes in the policies and programmes of the Training Institute in March, 2009. The core of those recommendations under Mission - V: Training and Capacity Building is to improve the entire geoscience sector through training in addition to catering to the needs of GSI. It also emphasized the opportunities for training and scope for further improvement in both administration and technical skill development in the sectors in which GSI may have a key responsibility. In accordance with the High power Committee (HPC) report, six Regional Training Institutes (RTIs), located at Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Nagpur and Shillong, emphasized the training on regional technical and administrative needs. Besides the primary responsibilities of developing Training Policy, Co-ordination and setting up of programme goals, GSITI conducts Specialized and International Courses at its TI headquarters/ RTIs on region-specific geo-scientific topics and need based capsule courses for earth scientists within and outside the department. The GSI has been training all its newly recruited Geoscientists with orientation courses imparting field training in its Pan-Indian Field Training Centres (FTC) distributed across the country.
