Gentler Times Stitching

Gentler Times is a family owned and operated fabric, sewing machine, and yarn Store that opened in July of 2011, in the cute, quaint little town of Naperville, Illinois. Brenda Gildemeister's love of quilting began when she was a small girl visiting her Grandmother in Pine Knot, Kentucky. Grandma Mattie Thomas had a large closet full of quilts for... her grandchildren to enjoy on their visits to her home. Brenda was captivated by all the colors and designs her Grandmother Mattie worked so hard to create using materials available at that time including, the old flour sacks used to pack flour for purchasing at the local grocery stores. The prettier the sack the more likely you were to purchase that brand of flour. It was not unusual for her Grandmother to save 4 or 5 sacks to sew into dresses for one of her seven daughters. Seth, Brenda's son, also works at the Store helping with machine sales and education. Seth has a strong engineering intellect that assists him in understanding the machine operations and a creative side he gets to explore everyday working at the Store. He thoroughly enjoys seeing the light bulb go off when someone learns a new technique using their machine and is a patient instructor that genuinely cares that everyone experience satisfaction when creating their projects. You will find yarns in the Store also for those who love to knit or crochet. Gentler Times specializes in unique yarns that you might not find at other Stores.
