Generation Power CT

Generation Power CT, formerly known as Operation Fuel, is a nonprofit organization based in Hartford, Connecticut, dedicated to addressing energy insecurity and providing emergency assistance to low-to-moderate income households throughout the state. Founded in 1977 in response to a worldwide oil embargo that caused unprecedented escalation in home... heating prices, the organization was created through a collaboration among religious communities, banking and insurance industry leaders, utilities, Father Thomas Lynch, and Governor Ella Grasso to serve working families who fell through the gaps of government assistance programs. Operating for nearly fifty years, Generation Power CT officially rebranded from Operation Fuel in June 2025 to reflect its expanded mission beyond heating fuel assistance to encompass comprehensive energy and water equity, sustainability, and community empowerment initiatives. Led by Chief Executive Officer Perkin Simpson, the organization provides emergency energy assistance grants of up to five hundred dollars per household annually for electricity, natural gas, deliverable heating fuels including oil, propane, kerosene, wood pellets, and coal, as well as year-round water assistance programs in partnership with Aquarion Water Company, Connecticut Water Company, and the Metropolitan District Commission. Generation Power CT operates four emergency energy assistance application cycles throughout the year during September, November, January, and March, accepting online applications exclusively through its website with support from over fifty application assistance centers located across Connecticut for residents requiring in-person help.
