Garden City Ammonia Program

Founded in 2003, Garden City Ammonia Program is the largest privately owned Ammonia Technical Training Program, training over 1,900 students a year with alumni representing 16 countries and over 800 companies. While GCAP has always offered its four day courses in Ammonia Operations and Process Safety Management at its facility and on-site for their... customers, 2013 has seen a dramatic change in their operations as they reach out to assist their customers in complying with OSHA's PSM and the EPA's RMP programs. In 2011 GCAP filed thousands of Federal Freedom of Information Act requests to OSHA and the EPA for Process Safety Management and Risk Management Program citations including the inspection narratives and supporting videos and pictures. This information was put into a database and used to completely re-imagine the long popular PSM course offered at the school. Starting in 2012 the course has been taught using an exclusive 500 page manual written entirely by GCAP staff. The manual, entitled "Implementing Process Safety Management for Ammonia Refrigeration Systems," combines industry best practices with the best available guidance from the IIAR, the Center for Chemical Process Safety, thousands of OSHA and EPA citations and the unparalleled experience of their students implementing in the field. Everyone here is trying to make every course, every lecture, and every example a little bit better than the last one. It's not a quick process and often you don't even realize how much progress you are making until a student points out how much things have changed and improved since their last visit. We believe we are the best in the world in what we do, but we also know we have to constantly improve to stay that way."
