The origins of Galapagos® stretch back to 1988 when Stephen Lack consolidated ownership of Lack Holdings, Inc., a 56 year-old multi-generational family business which operated primarily in retail and real estate, into the Lack family office. Approximately ten years later, Stephen was asked to help a significant Houston family with a range of diverse issues by taking on the role of Chief Investment Officer for their family office. Similar requests followed from other friends and families. This led Stephen to further evolve the business by creating a separate legal entity with the goal of becoming a full service multi-family office serving around a dozen leading Houston-based families.
