Put simply, FutureGov designs products to help people. That might mean helping professionals communicate across agencies with Patchwork, facilitating a long-term friendship between a young person and a lonely older neighbour with Casserole Club, or helping a young person prepare for their first visit to a GP to talk about their mental health issues... using Doc Ready. We also design products to help organisations work better. Local government is littered with broken enterprise technology: laptops that take fifteen minutes to start, confusing case management systems that rely on Internet Explorer 7, internal processes that require Oracle just to get some post-it notes purchased. People rely on technology to do their jobs, and bad technology like the examples above leads to failure demand, bad processes, fatigue and frustration. At FutureGov, we know that good technology can lead to simpler, more effective service delivery, and focusing on user-centred design lets us show the sector that there are better ways of doing things. Designing and implementing products helps us to learn about what works and what doesnt.
