Freedom Kids

All the colours and all the clothes for every body! We are two parents who live with our three children (ages 1, 5 and 10) in the Wairarapa, New Zealand. Before embarking on the Freedom Kids adventure, Rachel was a gender and body educator as well as a writer. Leif is an art teacher. Perplexed by the massive gender-divide in children's clothing, we... decided that it was time someone offered kids an alternative to the highly-gendered, sweatshop-made clothes that currently dominate children's clothing. We began our search locally in Aotearoa for fun, colourful kids clothing: we found some very cool people creating some very cool stuff. We learnt about some overseas people who were doing great things, so we got in contact with them too. With our very careful selection process we have created a collection of clothing that we are very excited to share with you. The best part about this process all along has been the people. We deal only with small businesses: many of our labels are just one person: the designer, the creator and the seller all rolled in to one (aka superpeople). All the clothing we stock is ethically made, gender neutral and allows children to play freely. We are a family business: Rachel does most of the marketing and writing, Leif is the photographer and the kids are in charge of toughness-testing the clothes. We figure if clothes survive our kids, they can survive (nearly) anything! When our youngest child was born in April 2017 we brought another person into the business - Michelle looks after all the clothing and packages the parcels for our customers.
