Forty Mile

RES in partnership with BHE Canada submitted the Forty Mile Project to the last Request for Proposals of the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) in October 2018. While we produced a quality submission with a competitive price, the Project was unfortunately not selected by AESO. With never-seen-before prices around 3.5 to 4 cents per kWh, wind i... s clearly the most affordable source of power today, in addition to being a solution to the greatest environmental challenge of our time: climate change. Alberta is nowhere close to completing its decarbonization of its electricity sector and many new opportunities still remain After submitting our power plant application in the fall of 2017 to the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC), and going through a brief public hearing in June 2018, the Project received its approval from the AUC at the end of August 2018. RES continues to invest into this important project, and achieving this milestone provides investors and the AESO with great certainty on the Projects feasibility and readiness. The Decision Summary from the AUC reads as follows: In this decision, the Alberta Utilities Commission must decide whether to approve an application from BHEC-RES Alberta G.P. Inc. to construct and operate a wind power project and a collector substation in the Bow Island area. After consideration of the record of the proceeding, and for the reasons outlined in this decision, the Commission finds that approval of the project is in the public interest having regard to its social, economic, and other effects, including its effect on the environment.
