Florida Heart Associates utilizes the special skills of both nurse practitioners and physician assistants in caring for the company's patients. Together, these specialists are known as advanced practice providers (APP). At Florida Heart Associates, the APP's work in close collaboration with the company's cardiologists and other healthcare professio... nals in the management of patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. In the office, they work closely with the company's physicians by performing patient histories and physical examinations, ordering diagnostic studies, interpreting test results, and developing treatment plans, including prescribing medications. In the hospital, they work closely with the company's physicians to provide efficient and skilled inpatient care, including admissions, consultations, daily follow-up, and discharges. They contribute by taking thorough histories and physical examinations, developing differential diagnoses, ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, and developing treatment plans. They also help manage post-operative care in the company's patients with device implants, electro-physiologic procedures, cardiac catheterizations, coronary interventions, and vascular procedures. They are able to assist in providing patient education and lifestyle counseling. All of the company's APP's have extensive training, are graduates of accredited programs, have passed national certification examinations, maintain continuing education and re-certification requirements, and are licensed by the State of Florida.
