Firstcheck is making: As featured in The Firstcheck Story The idea behind Firstcheck came when Firstcheck's co-founder, Hayden Laird's grandfather was diagnosed with melanoma. Following a visit to a local mole-mapping service, we realised the power of skin specialists to diagnose skin conditions and skin cancer through photographs. Australia and New Zealand have the highest rates of melanoma in the world. Studies show that up to 80% of melanomas are first noticed by either the person themselves or a family member and that the majority of 'skin checks' currently involve a person asking their GP if a spot they've noticed is 'okay or not'. It screamed out to us that there was an opportunity to make a real difference to our eye-watering skin cancer statistics by improving access to skin screening services by using smartphones and smart technology.
