About First Nations Studies Program

First Nations Studies emphasizes respect for community perspectives, systems of indigenous knowledge and the contributions of indigenous thinkers. Students in the program have the opportunity to explore the perspectives of First Nations groups and the perspectives of other cultures and disciplines. We are dedicated to developing the theoretical frameworks, cultural perspectives and intellectual skills necessary to address the challenges facing indigenous peoples in a complex world. FNSP integrates community perspectives into its academic program by inviting community leaders and experts join us for special lectures and to participate as guest speakers in courses. Students also have the opportunity to work in collaboration with Aboriginal organizations, as part of their research practicum.
