First Nations Climate Initiative

Climate change is the single greatest threat humanity faces. The problem is global in scale but locally experienced, especially by indigenous peoples who rely on the land and water to support their way of life. There have been, and will continue to be, dire consequences unless we act together. If we do not, the impacts of climate change will get mu... ch worse. It is possible and essential that global warming is limited to 1.5C above pre-industrial global average temperatures. The international community has identified the means to do so which requires the implementation of an evolving sequence of activities and impending timelines. Natural gas is a transition fuel in the internationally recognized scenarios that achieve this goal. The development of electrified LNG infrastructure in Northern BC enables Canada to produce natural gas with the lowest greenhouse gas emissions in the world. We can achieve Net-0 LNG in BC. This Net-0 LNG can be used to displace thermal coal and other much more greenhouse gas intensive fuels in Asia which are the leading cause of climate change. There are issues that need to be addressed in order for Canadian Net-0 LNG to successfully mitigate climate change.
