There's a lot of concern over Ame... ricans' increasing "news illiteracy." Anyone who watches Jay Leno's man on the street interviews might naturally feel this is a pretty rampant problem. This will only accelerate as news-reading tools become more sophisticated and RSS gets easier to use. Consumers will really only tune into news that's truly relevant to them, while tuning out the rest. UW professor and fellow blogger Kathy Gill and I discussed this over coffee yesterday. My only complaints: I wish Findory included blogs and some social networking features so that I can easily find stories that other people with the same interests have read. Still, I see Findory and personalized news as a boon for PR pros. As the mediasphere and blogosphere increasingly overlap, targeting both macro and micro audiences will become more important than ever.
