Faade Festival

Faade Festival is a monumental public art project and cultural event that took place from sunset to midnight each evening from September 8th to 14th, 2019 on the Georgia Street faade of the Vancouver Art Gallery, above the newly constructed xnq Xwtle7énk Square in the heart of downtown Vancouver. A selection of BC contemporary artists, both establi... shed and early-career, were commissioned to create ten stunning, site-specific works of art. Using the technology known as projection mapping, the works were tailored specifically for the Vancouver Art Gallerys iconic architecture, and projected over its Georgia Street faade, covering the building with moving, dynamic artwork. Faade Festival is an immersive, large-scale artistic experience that was shared by thousands of attendees. As a whole, the project spoke to the pervasiveness of digital forms in modern life and contemplates the role that new technologies play in contemporary art, while engaging the public in a grand architectural intervention free of charge. Faade Festival 2019 showcased the work of Dana Claxton, Sandeep Johal, Natalie Purschwitz, Howie Tsui, Bracken Hanuse Corlett, Justine Chambers, Josh Hite, Hyung-Min Yoon, Drew Young, Khan Lee, and Lindsay McIntyre. Works by two different artists were premiered each night from September 8th to 12th, while on September 13th and 14th, the public had the chance to enjoy all of the featured artists works in an encore presentation of all the projections.
