Douglas Shire residents applauded Sydney businessman Mark Collins for buying the derelict Exchange Hotel in 2013 to restore it to it's former 1930's glory. The Mossman Exchange Hotel was built in the late 19th century (c1896) and re-built after cyclone damage in March 1934. It is the biggest hotel in Mossman with accommodation, swimming pool, ballr... oom and many dining options. The emphasis for the Exchange now is one of a family friendly hotel making use of the many facilities found within it. Restoration work is being completed in stages with the Main bar and Blue Moon Bar & Grill being opened in June 2014. The opening of the Blue Moon Bar & Grill caused a sensation with chef Candice's mouth watering delights. The reasonably priced menu quickly gave the Blue Moon a reputation for the "Best Pub Food in Australia" title by the locals and visitors who have been patronising the place since it opened in June. With Port Douglas' reputation for dining Mossman can now boast dining as well as a major feature in the holiday shire.
