Equest Special Riders

Equest Special Riders Inc. is a non-profit organization of trained volunteers who provide therapeutic-recreational horseback riding and instruction for persons left physically or mentally dysfunctional through irregularites of birth, high fevers, disease or trauma from an accident. A few students are adults; the greatest majority of the Special Rid... ers are children. Children, who might never have walked, enjoy a chance to experience the exhilaration of moving freely, mounted atop a horse. While riders are involved in specialized games designed to improve coordination, the horse's gait massages their leg muscles. You need only watch one session to realize how much riding impacts the self-confidence and well being of the students. Thank you for your support! Like many of you, the Covid-19 quarantine has hit Equest hard. Currently we are financially stable for the next few months; however, if the quarantine is not lifted in the next few months, we may not be able to meet our financial obligations after that. We rely on rider fees from our classes, our yearly Fundraiser Dessert and Auction, the proceeds from the Morgan Horse Shows and donations to operate. Our classes have been cancelled with no known date to reopen and the May Morgan Horse Show has been cancelled as well. We lose around $200 for each day we do not hold classes and around $3,500 for the Morgan Show. We are currently postponing the Dessert and Auction until a further date when this Covid-19 quarantine is lifted but it is uncertain when that will be.
