Engine Manufacturers Association

EMA serves as the voice of its 28 member companies on domestic and international public policy, legislative and regulatory issues. The Association works cooperatively with regulatory agencies, including the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the California Air Resources Board (ARB), the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (... NHTSA), state governments and international regulatory agencies to develop and implement cost-effective and technologically feasible emissions, fuel efficiency and safety regulations that result in fewer emissions, better fuel efficiency, and enhanced safety. Tracing its roots back to 1968, EMA's members include the leading engine and truck manufacturers from the United States, Europe, and Japan. As a member-driven trade association, the management of EMA is based on a committee structure that includes a Board of Directors composed of a representative from each member company, an Executive Committee appointed by the members to direct and manage EMA activities, and a series of committees that are organized along major engine and truck product-lines, such as heavy-duty on-highway trucks and buses, nonroad mobile equipment, marine and locomotives engines, grounds care and utility equipment, stationary engines, and fuels. Each committee is comprised of member company representatives. Association operations are carried out by a small staff of professional and administrative personnel who represent and promote EMA positions with various outside organizations and government regulators. EMA is based in Chicago with a satellite international office in Germany.
