Engaging Communication

Back in his school days, mostly inspired by the many authors whose books he read, Richard was the guy who could craft ideas, his own or someone elses, into crystal clear sentences and paragraphs. Teachers were usually quite surprised that the boy who didnt want to speak up could write so well and that he did, in fact, have a good deal to say. RIcha... rd discovered that he not only had a talent for putting ideas into writing, he liked doing so. As an undergraduate at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, Richard originally pursued an engineering program because of his enthusiasm for Science, but then later changed his major to English allowing him to study under superb Language Arts professors who did not hesitate to challenge the young cadets at this military college. Some of these same professors had taught the writer Pat Conroy when he attended the same school years earlier. Richard not only excelled in his own ability to write high quality prose, he discovered a talent for helping classmates who were struggling with the stringent writing requirements of the school. After graduating, Richard briefly pursued a career in industrial sales, but returned to college several years later, completing a Postbaccalaureate English Education program at Kennesaw State College and University in Kennesaw, Georgia, and then earned a Masters Degree in Education at Georgia College and University in Milledgeville, Georgia. As a certified English Teacher, Richard taught Writing and Literature to high school students of all levels and abilities for many years. He enjoyed the challenge of convincing all students that their ability to communicate effectively would be one of the most potent skills they could acquire while in school, and that he would go to great lengths to help each student to reach his or her own potential. His greatest honor as a teacher was being named the Star Teacher of 1998 where he was teaching, prior to becoming an administrator.
