Elizabeth Schmidt

A native Californian, Elizabeth Schmidt performed in the Bay Area for ten years growing up and was awarded the Governer Arts Scholar Medallion for Dramatic Arts when she was sixteen. She graduated summa cum laude from Northwestern University's theatre program, where she performed in such productions as Hedda Gabler (Hedda), Picnic (Rosemary), Compa... ny (Joanne), and All My Sons (Ann). After moving to New York, Elizabeth worked steadily, primarily in theatre. She was accepted into the Harbor Theatre Company, through which she performed in numerous public readings and also in Stuart Warmflashs one-act, Tea Among the Tamaracks (Vanessa), which was selected to take part in the Samuel French One-Act Festival and was a Critics Choice Winner. Other New York theatre credits include Men Are Pigs (Girlfriend) at the Lion Theatre/Theatre Row; In the Wire (Packet #3) and Eleanor Rigby is Waiting, both performed in the New York International Fringe Festival, and Cuentos del Arbol, through which she received her Equity card. Regionally, Elizabeth appeared as Miranda in The Tempest at the California Shakespeare Theatre ( www.CalShakes.org ), directed by Lillian Groag, to much acclaim. She originated the role of Lucy in the world premiere of Mark Healys play Dracula: Lord of the Undead at the Fulton Theatre in Pennsylvania ( www.thefulton.org ), and played Shelby in Steel Magnolias at the Mountain Playhouse ( www.mountainplayhouse.com ) Elizabeth has also been working more frequently in television and film. In New York, she recurred on As the World Turns and acted in many independent films. One highlight, Waking Olguita, starring Altagracia Guzman (Raising Victor Vargas), was a finalist for the Wasserman Prize at the First Run Film Festival.
