This site was made as effort to increase the effective housing of displaced individuals from Hurricane Florence. After Florence it was extended to help those affected by other storms and as an experience to help solve the Wilmington housing crisis in general. It is designed to use algorithms to help match families to homes quickly. It does not oper... ate for profit and receives no proceeds from any entities or for assisting in facilitating rentals. When the storm was on the way, Many people stated they had nowhere to evacuate to or any way to travel. In the aftermath, while trying to connect people to shelters I had a vision in which people could be alerted to shelters and homes in real time that were statistically out of danger and vacancies came in immediate alerts. Where anyone signed up as a host can welcome others to refuge, and evacuating families can be led to safety. I believe this is something that was needed in my area much sooner that I had the idea. I would like to continue to operate this in the effort to provide my entire city with residency, track vacancies, and connect those in need to the best opportunity for a home, or at least in the short term, a warm shelter. My name is Devon Scott. I'm a Wilmington resident and am often involved with public service and volunteering in the city and my company Eidolon Institute is devoted to serving the community. When Florence came, my family and I stayed in Durham. Our home was mostly unscathed but many of our friends lost their homes while other citizens lost their lives. In seeing the number of people who needed homes, we decided to open a room in our home to help a family in need. Through the process I felt I could help more people by supporting those assisting to connect families to welcoming homes.
