Dry ice pellets (carbon dioxide/CO2) are accelerated in a jet of compressed air from a blasting gun and impact a surface at the speed of sound, immediately sublimating (changing in form from solid to gas). The extreme cold temperature of dry ice pellets (-79 degrees C/-110 degrees F) causes the bond of the contaminants to weaken and freeze, removing a multitude of residues on contact. Dry ice blasting is similar in principle to sand blasting however, dry ice blasting is non-abrasive and there is no secondary waste requiring disposal.
