We create opportunities through a self-help approach aiming towards long term impact by engaging both public and private players. The private sector initiatives are a focus of our work as it is a requirement for sustainable poverty alleviation. We facilitate sustainable change in social, economic and ecological development in Asia, Africa, Latin Am... erica and Eastern Europe. We provide consultancy services in collaboration with local partners to enable people to improve their vocational skills, competencies, economic conditions and access to markets. We believe in sustainable development through promoting vocational training, workforce development and continuing education; supporting small and medium-sized enterprise and minimizing environmental impact. Swisscontact aims to contribute to improved standards of living in Indonesia since 1972. We do this by promoting equitable access to economic participation for all parts of society through a more enabling environment for private sector development and by encouraging more ecologically-sensitive practices in the urban environment. Swisscontact always seeks to facilitate sustainable local solutions to local problems. Considering the development and income disparities in Indonesia, Swisscontact focuses on less developed areas. Two projects in Flores NTT, the Local Economic Development LED-NTT and the eco-tourism project WISATA are implemented under this strategy. The Regional Tourism Development project (WISATA) - 2009-2013, covers Flores, an island in the Indonesian province of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The project aims at building up an effective tourism destination management to strengthen the competitiveness of Flores as Tourism Destination, ensuring a sustainable flow of tourists and creating economic benefits for the local communities.
