Dimitra is an artist in the Waterloo Region who has experience in a wide range of artistic and craft practices. Since moving to the area in 2011, she has been involved in the art community in various and unique ways. DAMCraft Art, a reference to her name and practice, is a way to represent the wide range of artistic and craft practices she maintain... s. Portrait painting, landscape painting, drawing, bookbinding and repair, polymer clay jewellery making, and art classes encompass only some of the work which takes place in and out of the studio. Since 2006, painted portraits have been a point of interest and focus within her practice. Her use of colour, line, shape and detail bleeds into her other art practices. Several commissioned portraits have been completed since 2009. Dimitra achieved her Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2009 at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, and in 2010-2011 went on to attain Artist Blacksmith and Glassblowing certificates at Haliburton School of the Arts In 2011 Dimitra began working with Two Smiths, a blacksmith/coppersmith business. The type of work she did for the next five years included but was not limited to, TIG welding, jig work, forging and design. Projects both architectural and artistic. A perfect blend of craft and art. Since 2014 Dimitra has taught art classes for fundamental drawing and painting, as well as portraiture and a few craft-based workshops like bookbinding and polymer clay bead making. Arts Abound in St.Jacobs, ON., The Button Factory in Waterloo, ON., the Thames Gallery in Chatham, ON., are a few of the places that Dimitra has taught. Currently, the DAMCraft Art studio in Elmira, ON. is where classes are available. Dimitra is a past president of the Kitchener-Waterloo Society of Artists, a group that has membership of over 100 artists.
