Back in 1932, Marvin Wingert and his sisters Jean, Merle and Phyllis started their Red & White Food Store on Fulton Street. Four years later, Marvin married Emily Randall, and she became involved in the business as well. Aunt Jean worked for Marvin & Emily for 39 years. Four generations of the Wingert family have worked in the store and have contri... buted to the success. Dale & Pat Wingert, along with their sons Tim, Jeff, & Aaron now own & operate the store. Over the years, the store has changed to an IGA supplied store, then in 1988 it became a Spartan Store as it is currently known today on Main Street. Wingerts Food Center has been at its current location since 1977, where it has been remodeled and added onto several times. In 1980-81, the Wingerts added on 13,000 sq. ft. which included a Bakery and Deli. Then in 1997, the family added on another 14,000 sq. ft. to include a Pharmacy and a branch of the Mayville State Bank. In 2006, Wingerts added another 20,000 sq. ft. addition that included an expanded Bakery and Deli, a Subway franchise and Do It Best Hardware. The Wingert Family believes its success has come from the support of Mayville and the surrounding communities as well as the great employees they have employed over the years.
