Mark established Dion Law LLC in 2013 after three years with another Portland law firm. His practice areas include criminal defense and family law matters. He also has particular interests in legal issues involving mental health treatment as well as policies involving medical marijuana. Marks career began with his appointment to the Portland Police... Department, where he retired as Deputy Chief of Police after twenty-one years of public service. He subsequently served twelve years as the elected Sheriff of Cumberland County. Mark is well versed in police administrative, investigative and operational practices. He has also developed a recognized expertise in jail management and has been certified as a correctional executive by the American Correctional Association. Mark has received numerous awards for his work in civil rights from the NAACP, the Maine Gay and Lesbian Alliance, the Jewish Federation of Southern Maine, and the Maine Holocaust and Human Rights Center. He has also been honored with a commendation from President William Jefferson Clinton for his leadership in community policing. In addition he has received national recognition for his work in diversity advocacy by the International Association of Chiefs of Police and Parade Magazine.
