He has taken us inside the old Wisconsin & Calumet diesel shop where a pair of aging F7As are bei... ng prepped for new duties -- hauling freight manifests in and out of Chicago to Janesville, Wisconsin. The #106 is ex-Milwaukee Road #117C; its #901 stable mate is ex-Denver & Rio Grande Western #564D This month's "Remember When" is the final installment of a two-part photo essay on the Alco C630 built in Schenectady, New York and C630M produced at the MLW plant in Montreal. The last of the big six-motors still in service can be found on the Delaware-Lackawanna. Part 1 of the C630 profile appeared this past January. Next, your attention is drawn from 3000-hp Alcos to the other end of the locomotive spectrum; a close-up of EMD/EMC's "pint-size" Model 40, which was introduced in 1940. Only eleven of the stubby looking locos were produced, and many appear to be camera shy. Feel free to check back and see if other photos have been uncovered. Lastly, something entirely different!
