DFP started in 1981 when it was founded by Don Fox and commenced operating as Don Fox Planning Pty Ltd. Don started the company with a vision of providing professional, independent and specialist advice to the public and private sector and the development industryon all aspects of town planning. Over the past 30 years the company has grown to be one of the largest, independent planning practices in NSW with expertise in strategic planning, urban development, urban design and retail and economic planning. In 1996 Rob Player took over from Don Fox as Managing Director and the company has continued to evolve and grow to be one of the leading planning consultancy firms in NSW and is now known as DFP Planning Pty Ltd (DFP). In March 2008, Hirst Consulting Services merged with DFP. Hirst Consulting Services was a town planning and urban research consultancy with expertise in the analysis of retail, commercial, industrial, and employment issues. The retail and property economic analysis skills introduced through the merger with Hirst Consulting Services provides synergies with the existing strategic and development planning services, especially with the numerous retail, commercial, mixed use and other related DFP projects. In recent years, DFP has further expanded it's expertise into urban design to complement our already strong skills base in strategic and statutory planning. This allows us to deliver to our clients built form reviews, massing and density studies, urban design frameworks, feasibility testing and yield analysis. Having worked on over 8,000 projects, DFP is well placed to meet the challenges of planning and development throughout the Sydney Metropolitan area and NSW.
