The DeWitt family moving business got its start when Robert DeWitt would meet families at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles and offer to help truck their belongings to their new homes in nearby Pasadena. Woody DeWitt, son of Robert, grows to become an influential leader in the moving industry and helps establish the Household Goods Forwarders A... ssociation of America, now called the International Association of Movers (IAM). Woody DeWitt and his son, Richard, open their doors in Hawaii. The small warehouse location they take over in Honolulu on Ualena Street is the site of a former tennis academy. Seeing an opportunity to serve the Guam market, Richard DeWitt opens his doors in the commercial port at Cabras Island in the village of Piti. Seeing an opportunity to serve the Guam market, Approved opens a small operation in the Pacific, which soon grows into a Top 100 3PL that primarily serves Hawaii. Late founder Richard DeWitt opens DeWitt Move Worldwide in San Diego, Calif., where it soon will grow into an international operation serving more than 100 countries. For his years and dedication to the moving industry, Woody DeWitt is inducted into International Association of Movers Hall of Honor. Based in Anchorage, the company provides northbound, southbound and local and bush moves. The company also provides moving services for oversized and medical device equipment. Following in his fathers footsteps, Richard DeWitt is inducted into International Association of Movers Hall of Honor.
