Delta was named by Mr. Swire, who wanted a company name that was significant and easily remembered. His thoughts led him to a very meaningful name "Delta", which is the fourth letter of the Greek alphabet and is defined as a rich triangular tract of deposited fertile earth at the mouth of a river. In the first fifteen years of operations, Delta sought to excel in the business world confidently and profitably, in spite of the fire that devastated the original building in 1973. Excelling significantly, the company experienced real growth of 15 per cent per year- hiking this to 20 per cent in 2002 and showing 22 per cent growth, in terms of turnover.
