Dan Baker Custom Saddles

I made my first saddle in 1991 and commenced business (Dan Baker Custom Saddles) in 1992. At the time I was a stockman in the Gulf of Carpentaria, North Queensland. I worked on such cattle stallions as Kamileroi, Coolullah, Mt Roseby, and Hillside. After five years in the Gulf I moved to Karalee near Brisbane where I began full time saddle making.... My wife and I and two children have now settled at Stanwell near Rockhampton QLD. We live on 160 acres where we breed a few horses and I train my own cutters. I have competed in the NCHA Non Pro Futurity, Derby and Classics as well as regular weekend shows. I also compete in Challenges and Campdrafts. This has helped me immensely in the designing of my saddles. As I use them every day I have found first hand what works and what doesnt. My saddle making philosophies came from doing big days in the saddle, I never liked getting a sore bum and I dont like hurting a horses back. I am the sort of person that will save up a bit of extra money and buy the best quality item with the thought that I will have it for a long time and be proud of my purchase.
