Crooked River Counseling

Having worked outside her home community for a number of years, Catherine decided she wanted to provide services closer to her home. Since she owns a home on Crooked River, and got married "IN" the river, and when it came to name the Agency, she couldn't imagine any other name given the importance the river had to her, and thus Crooked River Counse... ling was born. It began in a small building on Winter St. in Norway Maine, providing outpatient, group and family substance abuse treatment. In 2007 after other providers voiced a need for more service In the area, Crooked River Counseling added an Intensive Outpatient treatment program (IOP). In May of 2009, Crooked River Counseling partnered with Dr. Craig and Jen Smith from the North Bridgton Family Practice to provide integrated substance abuse treatment within the primary care setting, and expanding services to include referral for patients that needed Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opiate addiction-thus the treatment model of integrated substance abuse treatment within the primary care setting was born. The program continued to grow, and later that year of 2009, Crooked River Counseling moved to a larger space at 39 Western Ave. in South Paris to accommodate the growth. In 2013, the program began another growth process with the addition of another office within Bridgton Internal Medicine, working with Dr. Peter Leighton, providing integrated substance abuse treatment for patients he provided Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) to. In Early 2015, Crooked River Counseling recognized it would be more beneficial for clients that our main office be located in the Bridgton community. So in March of 2015, Crooked River Counseling moved onto the Bridgton Hospital campus. In May of 2015, we expanded our services and were granted a mental health license, focusing on the co-occurring population.
