The Center for Resource Management (CRM) is a national non-profit organization, founded in 1991. The Center was formed as a "safe harbor" where business executives, environmental leaders, citizens and government officials could work out environmental problems and conflicts in a collaborative setting. Building on this foundation, the Center has expa... nded its efforts to improve environmental decision making and practice by assisting individual companies, industries and local communities with environmental assessments and solutions-oriented strategic planning. In the public policy arena, the Center organizes and facilitates environmental conferences and stakeholder coalitions to create new models, new policy, new technologies and new institutional commitments to protect the company's natural resources in a viable business environment. The Center's overall mission is to assist leaders in both the public and private sectors to achieve sustainable development through collaborative and creative action. The Center's early work focused on developing "common ground" between environmental adversaries. The Center sought to bring productive resolution to difficult natural resource disputes. Often this occurred in the context of a working conference, where opposing parties were invited to energetically debate the merits of a particular issue. CRM hosted early conferences on the issues of forestry, climate change, clean air, energy development, and water resources. In the ensuing years, CRMs work has evolved. Now, in addition to conflict resolution and conferences, the Center creates opportunities to build active coalitions and seek practical demonstrations of new ideas and approaches to environmental problems. Today, the CRM works on an ongoing basis with several industries, in partnership with the environmental community, to steadily advance their environmental commitment and performance.
