About Crestview Quarter Horses

Crestview Quarter Horses is located in historic Charles City County just outside of Richmond, Virginia. It is situated on Mt. Gallant Farm, one of the highest points in the county. Mt. Gallant has been farmed continuously since the late 1800's and was once home to other farm animals. Today beautiful quarter horses graze in the morning light. Our mission is to breed and raise quarter horses that look great, with the mind and ability to be used and ridden. With a foundation of cow/reining-bred mares, we seek out stallions that will cross on each individual mare and hope for an outstanding individual. Crossing our mares on reining, working cow horses, and cutting stallions that are also pretty and correct produces foals with the ability to perform for you. Crestview Quarter Horses is owned and managed by Bert Van Aalst and Brenda Clarke. Bert is a native Dutchman who immigrated to the United States in 1985. Crestview Quarter Horses is owned and managed by Bert Van Aalst and Brenda Clarke. Bert is a native Dutchman who immigrated to the United States in 1985. As a child, Bert, like a lot of us, fell in love with horses and cowboys and always dreamed of owning his own farm with fields of horses. Brenda, on the other hand, grew up on a cattle and hog farm and her dad had a few good horses because he liked a good using horse. They were quarter horses, what we now call "Foundation Quarter Horses." Brenda rode all the horses and they did whatever needed to be done, from moving cows to towing logs, babysitting the city cousins, to a quick drag race with the neighbors, 4-H and local quarter horse shows. Her favorite horse of all time was Brandy, a King bred ranch gelding from Oklahoma. We have been living with and loving horses since 1987. We breed for the quarter horse that performs, with the athletic ability and mind to move cows, run a reining pattern, tow a log, go for a nice quiet trail ride or just be a pleasure to be around. Our horses are treated like horses, out in the pasture; the foals run together and grow up knowing how to interact in a herd. Thank you for visiting our farm. We hope you enjoy the tour.Read More
