Coventry Transport

Coventry Transport was the trading name of the former Coventry Corporation Transport Department. It was first used in January 1937 on bus 162 and continued in use until 31 March 1974. On that date, the bus operations of the Corporation were transferred to the West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive. As Coventry Transport ceased to exist before... the implementation of the Transport Act 1985, with the requirement for local authority bus operations to be put at arms length as private companies, the name never needed to be registered by the Corporation. In other parts of the country, bus operators and others have revived and registered the names historically used by local authorities for their former bus operations. Examples include Kingston-upon-Hull Corporation Transport Ltd by City Central of Hull, Leeds City Transport Ltd by Black Prince of Morley and Glasgow Corporation Transport Ltd by the Glasgow Bus Museum. Enquiries showed that Coventry Transport Limited was available and accordingly was registered as a private limited company in February 2002 as company no. 04358706.
