Cornerstone Associates creates meaningful employment and community involvement opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Cornerstone Associates, Inc. was formed in 2001 from the merger of two non-profits, Bonney Enterprises and Open Door Inc. which had a combined total of over 70 years in operation. An important par... t of the social contract we share with those we serve is in recognizing the relevance of the mandate to integrate individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities into the larger community. Cornerstone Associates has created a culture that respects and promotes dignity, individuality, independence, and freedom of choice. We do this primarily by offering job skill development through employment at the six small, independent business that we own. Each business employs a manager and staff who provide vocational training and employment opportunities for our Associates. These businesses include a landscape maintenance service which provides year-round lawn and garden maintenance to residential and industrial sites; a janitorial company providing commercial and residential janitorial services; a unique neighborhood bakery and deli; a bookbindery which specializes in restorations; a packaging service; and a wood products remanufacturing wood shop. This diversification means that Associates have an opportunity to choose work in which they are most interested. Many Associates who train at one of our businesses go on to work for other employers in the community. This is a desired outcome, as Cornerstone seeks to provide the supports which enable Associates to live and work in their community at the level of self-sufficiency with which they are most comfortable.
