Cool Tools was created in 2000 to bring a carefully selected range of data management products to the UK relational database marketplace. The simple rationale behind our portfolio is that our tools must be easy to install, flexible in their deployment and intuitive to use. With over 30 years IT industry experience specialising in database performance and security, Cool Tools brings a wealth of experience to the IT Infrastructue environment and list household names as everyday users of our products. The products which Cool Tools represents and supports are specifically focused : Database Subsetting and Masking. These two concepts are inextricably intertwined. There are generally at least 3 mirror copies of the database for each live domain - and very often we've seen more than a dozen of them! This leads to resource contention of the highest order. There is a burning desire to simply upgrade hardware (primarily disk space) to accommodate this but there is then a knock-on effect on your backup and management strategies. Implementing database subsetting practices allows you to have smaller footprint test environments which, if you think about it, means that you can have more of them within existing resource parameters - each configured and created for the specific development sprint. We also face a security challenge. Do we let everyone see production data? Are we constrained by legislation (for instance the UK Data Protection Act, Sarbanes Oxley, HIPAA?).
