Congregation Kol Haneshama

When you come to services or other activities at Congregation Kol HaNeshama, you will find a friendly, energetic and committed group of year round and seasonal residents; families, singles, retirees and visitors, all of whom share a common goal of creating a dynamic, supportive and vibrant synagogue community. Most of us came from somewhere else. S... ome of us were active in Jewish communities elsewhere. Some have come to Sarasota looking for connections that are meaningful, and a Jewish life that makes sense in our busy and sometimes stressful lives. Some have children and are looking for meaningful Jewish experience for their families. Some families have non-Jewish members or non-traditional life styles and are seeking a synagogue that will make them all welcome. Some want to learn; some are able to teach. All of us want our voices to be heard and our opinions and ideas to be recognized. Kol HaNeshama is a democratically organized synagogue community. Decisions about community life are made by the members in a values based process. We began in 2007 with three couples, and now have grown to about 150 members. High Holiday services are designed to include everyone in the community who is interested in experiencing our (unique to Sarasota) participatory, musically inspiring, learning infused services. Shabbat services (Friday night one week and Saturday morning the next week) happens almost every week. You can join a committee and help to develop our future programs and activities even before joining as a member. Bring your voice and life experience to the creative process we are engaged in!
