Concepts In Production, LLC (CIP) is owned by Tom Higgins, who has worked as a mechanical engineering professional and been in the CAD/ CAM industry from the near beginning of its existence. He began his career with General Electric Medical Systems near Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1977. He spent two years in product design with GE where he gained his f... irst CAD experience with plastic design and manufacturing. He then changed his career path and moved to the automotive industry. He spent the next 12 years with United Technologies Automotive Systems (UTA) where he became responsible for engineering and manufacturing CAD/CAM/CAE/CIM. With the experience and expertise he brought to UTA, he was appointed to the UT C4 (CAD/CAM/CAE/CIM) task force. The C4 task force was a team of individuals chosen from various UT Corporate (UTC) divisions all over the United States, including Sikorsky, Pratt & Whitney, and UTA. The task force was charged to develop standards and set forth a direction for UT divisions for engineering systems and executions. In the first fourteen years as an engineering professional, he gained extensive experience in plastic design, rapid prototyping, and injection molding. He attended classes at UCLA on rapid prototyping (RP) and rapid tooling technology (RT) in the early to mid '80's. He then began focusing on the RP & RT technologies to adopt processes in order to reduce time to market for plastics and metal product development. He was then solicited by General Motors to execute a GM facility north of Nashville, Tennessee. He spent six years implementing this plant, which included automated injection molding, automatic electronic component insertion for PCB's, CAD/CAM/CAE/CIM for plastic product development, rapid prototyping, injection mold design, and CNC mold & tool shop.
