Con Anima

In light of recent events we have regretfully taken the decision to postpone our performance of the St. John Passion on April 4th. We are trying to arrange a replacement date, probably in September and will announce this as soon as we can. Tickets already purchased will be valid for the new date but will be refunded if necessary. As Im sure you und... erstand these are uncharted waters and we are working with all those concerned to manage the situation as best we can. Thank you for your continued support of Con Anima! , Con Anima present Bachs St. John Passion under the musical direction of Roger Williams MBE and including a superb array of soloists all with Aberdeen connections. This work, one of the towering masterpieces of European music, has compelling recitatives, electrifying choruses, heart-wrenching arias and is almost operatic in its drama! almost 20 years and it is a self-managing group. At any one time it has about 24 members, all singers, who perform typically four concerts a year, sometimes augmented by guest singers. The repertoire is broad, including large scale works (e.g. Handels Messiah with orchestra), a cappella works (e.g. Morten Lauridsens Madrigali), new compositions (e.g. Judith Weirs The Big Picture) and Christmas carols. As a self-managing group, Con Anima chooses a conductor (currently for one project at a time), rather than the conductor choosing the singers. At present there is no wish to abandon this arrangement. However, at the last AGM, Con Anima agreed in principle to establish a post of Musical Director, to create a more consistent approach to the choirs overall sound, ensemble and vocal technique, whilst retaining the opportunity to continue working with guest conductors. The purpose of Con Animas Musical Director will be to create a consistency of approach by giving advice on matters musical, choral and vocal, and so develop the choirs standards of musicianship and performance.
