Community Shares

Our mission is to support social justice organizations through workplace giving programs and other philanthropic initiatives. Founded in 1984, Community Shares is Cleveland's only workplace giving federation with a focus on social justice. We generate essential operating funds for nonprofit organizations that are working for positive community chan... ge. Funding Solutions for Community Problems Our 43 member organizations address the root causes of social problems facing our neighborhoods, our community, and our region. They provide education, promote health care, protect children and women, advance home ownership, provide job training and employment, build neighborhoods, and work to end discrimination. Community Shares philosophy of change is based on the power of participation -- the power of individuals to shape change. Working with the Support of Employers in Greater Cleveland Currently, over 110 area employers include Community Shares in their annual workplace charitable campaigns. These companies have recognized that expanding employee choice is an easy and effective way to express to their employees -- and the community -- that they support a sense of corporate responsibility and social and civic involvement. Efficient, Effective and Established Employee Giving Program As a member based organization, we keep administrative costs to a minimum, making every contribution more responsive to community needs. We are governed by a Board of Directors that includes representatives from member organizations as well as Community Directors who collectively keep us focused on our mission.
